TN-TIT FORUM: PROMOTING TOURISM, INVESTMENT & TRADE BETWEEN NIGERIA & TANZANIA

As international engagement and diplomatic relations are now leaning more towards economic and cultural, rather than political and traditional diplomacy, the High Commission of Tanzania in Nigeria has organized a forum aimed at deepening the economic ties between Nigeria and Tanzania.

With the Theme: “Tanzania-Nigeria Tourism, Investment and Trade (TN-TIT)”, the forum which held both in Abuja and Lagos was a hybrid event, and attracted a full house of participants, in line with COVID 19 protocol, and hundreds of delegates who joined virtually.

Speaking at the event, the Tanzania High Commissioner, Amb (Dr) Benson Bana emphasized that the objectives of the forum are to increase the number of tourists from Nigeria to Tanzania from the annual average of 6,000 to around 10,000 by December 2022, to increase the number of Tanzania products in the Nigerian market, and to increase Trade volume between Nigeria and Tanzania.

Some of the key participants in attendance at the Abuja event include Yewande Sadiku (ES NIPC), Dr Aliyu Idi-Hong (Director, BUA Group), Emmanuel Akinwumi (PPS Specialist at AfDB), Uchechi Rochas (DG Rochas Foundation), Saratu Iya Aliyu (President NACCIMA), Victoria Akai (DG ACCI) and host of other delegates.

On a similar note, the Lagos event attracted crops of distinguished corporate executives and organizations that have successfully established business operations in Tanzania.

Notably was Dangote Group, which was represented by Mansur Ahmed (Executive Director), who made a passionate and inspiring presentation on how Dangote business venture in Tanzania has been the most successful experience for Dangote and thereby encouraged the participants to make a bold step and invest in Tanzania.

Other strategic delegates at Lagos event include Toki Mabogunje (President Lagos Chamber of Commerce), Amb. Ayo Olukanni (DG NACCIMA), GT Bank, UBA Group, African Finance Corporation and others.

The event has opened a vista of opportunities for prospective investors who were also encouraged by Amb. LiberataMulamula, Tanzania Minister of Foreign Affairs, who spoke on the strength of potential large market for investors in Tanzania, especially with the advent of African Continental Free Trade Agreement.

Other speakers from Tanzania include Tanzania Investment Center, Zanzibar Investment Promotion Agency, Tanzania Tourism Centre, Zanzibar Tourism Board, and other major drivers of Tanzania economy.
