Regarded as one of Africa’s quintessential diplomat, refined academia and a respectable community leader, Prof. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande is the Nigerian Permanent Representative to the UN, and the President of the 74th UN General Assembly (UNGA).
In the period Bande has spent at the UN, he has succeeded in making his marks towards the drive for the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As the President of UNGA, Prof. Tijjani has prioritized poverty eradication, zero hunger, quality education, climate action and education as his major visions for the 74th UNGA.
The galvanizing leadership qualities of Prof. Tijani has been underscored by putting together a proactive group known as ‘Alliance for Poverty Eradication’ which has combined forces in combating the scourge of poverty amongst nations of the world.
The group consists of leadership from over 30 world leaders who recently reached a consensus during a High-Level Meeting on ‘Poverty Eradication Strategies’ to set up a multilateral action against the eradication of poverty.
Prof. Tijani Muhammad-Bande was once a Vice-Chancellor at UsmanuDanfodiyo University in 2004 and had previously worked for various international organisations.
Professor Muhammad-Bandehas won merit awards and honours from Institutions and Governments, including the United States and China. Most notably, he is a recipient of Nigeria’s Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), one of Nigeria’s highest national honours.
