Geoffrey Onyeama

Geoffrey Onyeama, a veteran lawyer, a seasoned international bureaucrat, and former World Intellectual Property Organization Deputy Director-General, with an extensive background and degrees from Columbia University, the London School of Economics, and Cambridge University is the Honourable Minister of Foreign  Affairs, Nigeria.

Having worked nearly 30 years at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), Onyeama had worked extensively with the United Nations on development in Africa.

He was appointed into the Federal Executive Council by President MuhammaduBuhari as Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2015, and again in 2019, owing strongly to his impressive profile.

Geoffrey Onyeama has continued to sustain the priorities he tabulated on his assumption of office which includes fighting corruption, boosting the economy, and improving relations within the region.

Being the Intellectual Property expert that he is, he employs the use of IP and innovation to achieve these priorities, clearly evidenced in the Nigerian Economic Diplomacy Initiative (NEDI), a brainchild of his conceived to support the economic diversification program of the Buhari administration.

Onyeama is an advocate for intellectual property rights and firmly believes that intellectual property can be used to leverage the science, agriculture and other sectors.

A highly cerebral leader, a meritocrat and a man of fine mettle, Geoffrey Onyeamais esteemed by many both within and outside Nigeria. Having tested positive to Covid-19 virus, his latest Covid-19 test result has come out negative, after three weeks in isolation, to the delight and relief of all and sundry.
