Amb. Mariam Katagum, Honorable Minister of State for Industry, Trade & Investment is a diplomat, an educationist, and an international cooperation expert with distinguished accomplishments in economic diplomacy and leadership experience both in the Nigerian public service and in the United Nations.
Prior to her appointment as Minister of State for Industry, Trade & Investment she served as Permanent Representative of Nigeria at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Paris, between 2009 and 2019.
She became the Secretary General of the Nigerian National Commission for UNESCO in 2001 working closely with other agencies such as UNICEF, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), World Bank, UK Department for International Development (DFID), among others.
Since her appointment by Presi-dent Buhari, she has admirably keyed into the vision of the President to diversify and grow the Nigerian economy, diligently and efficiently driving the promotion of government’s policies on Foreign Direct Investment, Ease of Doing Business, industrialization, job creation and poverty alleviation.
Amb. Katagum sits as Chairperson of the 10-man steering committee to drive the implementation of the various support schemes for small businesses especially Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country.
She is an epitome of a silent and effective achiever in this noisy generation; a woman of great repute, extremely well-read and widely-travelled.
