THEME: Expanding Trade & Investment between Nigeria and Thailand


Nigeria and Thailand are important key economic giants in their respective regional geographical locations – Nigeria being the largest economy in Africa, and Thailand the second largest economy in Southeast Asia.

Over the years, trade and investment activities between Nigeria and Thailand has been very minimal and considering the strong economic comparative advantages that exist between the two countries, there has been a several request and enquiry for the development of a strategic economic cooperation with the aim of creating positive impact to the economy of both Nigeria and Thailand.

To this effect, Thai Trade office in Abuja and Diplomatic Vista initiated a collaborative strategy to improve trade and business between Nigeria and Thailand through an investment business forum in Thailand.


The Trade and Business Investment forum was a collaborative effort of Federal Ministry of Trade, Industry, Trade and InvestmentThe Royal Thai Embassy & Thai Trade Center in Abuja, Embassy of Nigeria in Bangkok and Diplomatic Vista Management & Consultancy which provided the operational and logistics supports by mobilizing and coordinating participants, managing their general travel arrangements as well as overall program design and Coordination.

The event took place in Bangkok, Thailand at the prestigious Swissotel Hotel between 4th to 6th March 2020, and the Nigeria delegates was led by Hon. Minister of State, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Amb. Mariam Katagum.

The Forum was structured to bring together key Nigerians from Public/Private sectors and their Thai counterpart for mutually beneficial discussions, one- one interactions and business networking, focusing on the following sectors of the economy: Agric business, manufacturing & Processing (Textile & Garment), Health Care, Mining & Solid Minerals, Oil & Gas, Business funding and Energy.


Activities during the Trade & Business forum included keynote address, presentations (from both sides) by various government agencies, as well as business testimonial from the private sectors. There was also business networking B2B/G2B opportunities, which was followed by gala dinner and special recognitions. The event was rounded up with company visits to Thanulux Public Company Ltd, and Erawan Textile Ltd; both companies being Thai leading brands in textile and garment production and organic feeds respectively. 


The Business Forum attracted approximately 262 participants from both Nigeria and Thailand with participants drawn from both public and private sectors. The breakdown of participants includes:

The success of the Nigeria Thailand Trade & Business Forum can be measured by the audio/visual output and feedback from participants (Nigerians and Thai). There have been several positive feedbacks and commendation for the success of the event.

Moving Forward:

  • The Trade & Business Forum will continue to open doors for more strategic Economic and diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Thailand.
  • More Thai Companies have indicated willingness to invest in Nigeria.
  • In view of the enquires and feedback from both Thai companies and participants from Nigeria, it is evident that there is huge prospect of positive impact to be experienced by the economy of both countries in the near future.
