As a proactive measure to address the medical challenges in the country, especially to reverse the rate of outbound medical tourism, Prof.AdesojiAdesugba, Managing Director, Nigeria Export Promotion Zone Authority (NEPZA) has assured Nigerians that his agency will support the establishment of medical tourism within Nigeria to reduce the over $1billion that is spent yearly on foreign medical tourism.
Prof.Adesoji gave this assurance during an interactive session with DairusIshaku, Governor of Taraba state at the premises of NEPZA in other to finalize plans for the establishment of NEPZA/Taraba State Technical Committee.
Speaking at the interactive session, Prof.Adesugba said: “NEPZA will ensure that the potential of mining, agriculture and tourism available in the state are fully tapped for the benefit of all. We are going ahead to ensure the provision of infrastructure in all the free trade zones across Nigeria, including the proposed establishment of a free trade zone in Taraba State.”
The NEPZA DG also revealed that Nigeria’s investments in the 44 Free Trade Zones across the country currently stand at over $27 billion; boosting job opportunities for the youths and help in the diversification of the Nigerian economy.
Governor Ishaku, while responding, disclosed that the government recently set aside over $1 billion to quickly develop its airport runway to help accelerate Foreign Direct Investments into the state.
