Goodluck Jonathan Updates on Mali Mediation
President Buhari received updates on the mediation mission in Mali led by former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, Special Envoy, and Mediator in the Mali crisis. The President noted at this meeting that the priority in Mali, henceforth, should be securing the country, which is largely occupied by terrorists. Mediation efforts of the regional bloc began after weeks of violent protests, in June, with the deployment of the ECOWAS Ministerial Mission to Bamako, to establish the diagnostics of the crisis, and propose solutions.
Alongside twelve other African leaders, President Muhammadu Buhari took part in the Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity against Covid-19 which focused on addressing the health and economic impact of the pandemic through the China-Africa partnership.
The Summit saw China’s renewed commitment to the Africa CDC as well as an address of debt-relief to relevant African countries.
West African Leaders Mediate in Mali Crisis
Intent on averting further instability in Mali, five ECOWAS Heads of State comprising Presidents of Ghana, Ivory Coast, Niger, Nigeria, and Senegal were in Bamako on a high-stakes mission, to find a solution to Mali’s political crisis.
The regional Presidents were on the latest leg of mediation between the embattled President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and the key figures of the opposition protest movement after an earlier ECOWAS mediation mission failed to bridge differences between the parties involved.
President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana Visits
President Muhammadu Buhari received President Nana Akufo-Addo in a meeting to address issues surrounding the recent maltreatment of Nigerian businessmen and women in Ghana, with a view of discussing possible solutions to the crisis.
Akinwumi Adesina Visits
In the face of the travails that almost foiled Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina’s re-election bid as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), he enjoyed unwavering support from President Muhammadu Buhari.
On his re-election, following his exoneration by the Independent Review Panel of any ethical wrongdoing, he paid a ‘thank-you’ visit to the President describing him as his ‘Defender-in-Chief’ and ‘Supporter-in-Chief’.

Amongst all the supporters Dr. Okonjo-Iweala has gained, it is interesting to note that her first and biggest supporter remains the President, H.E. Muhammadu Buhari.
The President received her at the State House after she was announced as one of the two finalists in the race for the prestigious position of DG of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), giving his assurance to do everything, within his powers, to ensure that she clinches the top trade job.
57th Ordinary Session of ECOWAS
President Muhammadu Buhari participated at the 57th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government held in Niamey, Niger Republic.
The President was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, CBN Governor, National Security Adviser, other Ministers as well as other top government officials.
President Sall of Senegal & President Embalo of Guinea-Bissau visit
President Muhammadu Buhari hosted President Macky Sall of Senegal and President Umaro Embalo of Guinea-Bissau to a dinner meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja where they discussed issues bordering on security, economy, the Covid-19 pandemic situation in the region as well as other regional and continental matters.
UN World Forum On Development Financing
President Buhari joined over 50 world leaders in a virtual summit of the United Nations, co-hosted by the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and Jamaican Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, to discuss financing in the era of Covid-19 and beyond.
The virtual UN World Forum on Development Financing brought together world leaders and international organizations in order to sharpen and accelerate the global response to the economic and human impacts of Covid-19.
