A Pan-Africanist of the modern generation and regarded as one of Africa’s brightest and best in Africa today, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina has succeeded in producing a glaring strategic transformation achievements at African Development Bank Group.
The recent feat of AfDB ranking fourth in the 2020 Aid Transparency Index (ATI), out of 47 world’s major development institutions, which included the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and UNDP, is a reflection of the distinguished corporate leadership model Dr. Adesina has provided at the AfDB in recent times.
At 58, he is the 8th elected President of the AfDB and the first Nigerian to attain the position. He is a renowned economist, a writer, and an agricultural development expert with 25 years of international experience.
Adesina was once the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in Nigeria, and had previously worked for various international organizations. An avid reformer, an administrator par excellence and a man of intimidating, impressive accomplishments, Adesina’s stewardship as President, African Development Bank (AfDB), has seen the Bank implement programmes that have remarkably advanced Africa’s development.
Some of his international awards include Forbes African Person of the Year award (2013), Winner of the World Food Price of $250,000 (2017) and Sunhak Peace Prize of $500,000 (2017).
