It was an eventful and fun day for the residents of Abuja as the 2nd Asian film festival took place in the Central Business District, Abuja. The event which was hosted at the Korean Cultural Centre, was aimed at showcasing the best artistic works (in terms of films) to have come out of Asia, had on display various films from different countries in that region with a cultural display from each participating country.
One of the films at the event was the award winning Iranian movie “MERMAID” which has had 6 foreign film festival appearances so far and has won the award for the best film (theme) at the Kolkata Environment Festival among others. The film is dedicated to preserving the Gulf’s environment and honoring the divers’ martyrs at the Persian Gulf location
Mr. Han Sungrae, the Director of the Korean Cultural Centre in Nigeria, in his welcome remark showed utmost pleasure in the opportunity to play host to the 2nd Asian film festival and was hopeful that the film festival would help strengthen relations between Nigeria and the Asian countries.
According to him:
“through this film festival, I am quite hopeful that there will be even stronger cordial relations between Nigeria and the Asian countries”.
The film festival ran for a course of 5-days, showing different Asian cultures from countries as, Iran, Korea, Bangladesh, Pakistan, China, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan and Malaysia and that of Nigeria.
